What is a root canal?
Chipped teeth account for the majority of dental injuries. More severe but less frequent injuries can include dislodged or knocked-out teeth. Treatment depends on the location, type and severity of the injury. Any tooth injury requires examination by a dentist immediately. Sometimes, the injury will go unnoticed only to be detected later through a dental exam, including x-rays of the teeth and surrounding bone structures.
Most chipped teeth can be restored simply by placing a tooth-colored restoration. A further chip may require the tooth getting a crown or ?cap?. If breathing through your mouth or drinking cold fluids is painful, these may be signs that the pulp may be exposed or damaged. If this is indeed the case, root canal treatment will need to be performed to save the tooth.
